Murder prompts police clearing of south MPLS homeless encampment

It took a tragedy to make it happen.

I posted the “after” footage from today of the now-cleared site on 3rd Ave. S near 33rd Street on Twitter (X) here. All that remains of the once-packed encampment is brand-new cyclone fencing and some police tape.

I filmed the “before” video of the camp on the vacant lot surrounded by houses just five days ago. It’s available on YouTube [click on the picture below.]

A mobile police camera remains in place across the street.

What prompted the clearing yesterday evening was reportedly an altercation between camp residents. WCCO reports,

1 killed after large fight at Minneapolis homeless encampment,

Apparently, a 33-year-old man was found by police dying on the sidewalk after being shot. The fight apparently began within the compound but spilled into the street.

As always, “No arrests have been made.”
