Tim Walz visits Manhattan, Alex Soros

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz took time out from his busy schedule to visit the Manhattan, New York, home of the philanthropist Alex Soros. The event is commemorated on Soros’ Twitter (X) account, which features photos of the two men against the sweeping city skyline.

These days, Alex, aged 38, serves as the Chairman of the board of the Open Society Foundations, a 32-billion-dollar (with a “b”) nonprofit founded by his father, New York-based-financier George Soros, aged 94. Tim Walz is currently a candidate for Vice President of the United States.

The significance of this tete-a-tete was not lost on national media (Fox News, NY Post) and international media (UK Daily Mail, Times of India). Strangely, there has been no coverage of the meeting in legacy Minnesota media.

You may recall a similar meeting two years ago between the younger Soros and Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison:

The Daily Caller describes the Walz-Soros visit as a campaign fundraiser. The Soros family has certainly been generous to Minnesota Democratic politics over the years, as I documented in this video and this post in my Minnesota For Sale series.

The donations have continued into 2024. So far this year, the senior Soros has donated $125,000 to the state DFL party, according to records maintained by the state Campaign Finance Board:

Back in February, Alex himself donated the maximum $1,000 to the re-election campaign of state Rep. Jamie Long (DFL-Minneapolis), who currently serves as House Majority Leader.

Alex also donated the same amount to Rep. Long back in 2022.
