Will Keith Ellison go after Twitter/Elon Musk?

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison took time out from his busy Labor Day schedule to post the following on Twitter (X):

In the 22 hours since, the post has been viewed more than 3 million times. It is a stand-alone post, not a reply or a quote.

The phrase, translated from its original Portuguese, means, “thank you Brazil!” What is Ellison referring to?

The previous day, Ellison reposted a link to a Mother Jones article on the X platform’s principal owner, Elon Musk:

It’s been widely interpreted that Ellison’s cryptic post was in support of Brazil’s efforts to ban the X platform and to prosecute Musk and his unrelated business interests in that South American nation.

Fox Business reports:

The attorney general [Ellison] serving alongside Gov. Tim Walz in Minnesota wrote a thank-you message to Brazil on X just days after the South American country started blocking the social media platform, drawing a sharp rebuke from Elon Musk.

All of which prompted a response (indirect) from the man himself:

To clarify what Ellison actually meant by his comment in Portuguese, we sent a series of questions to the Attorney General’s office. The reply is reprinted in the box below:

[If we do receive a response, we will reprint it in an update.]

The serious policy issue here is that Keith Ellison is the state’s top law-enforcement official. Will he use his office (and state taxpayer money) in an effort to ban Twitter (X) in Minnesota? Will he go after Elon Musk personally, or Musk assets within the state?

What about Ellison’s oath to uphold the U.S. and state constitutions, including the 1st Amendment and MN Article 1?
